What is a sawmill?

These timber products, also known as sawn timber, are used in construction, furniture making and industry, for example. Formerly powered by hydropower, today's sawmills generally work with electric motors and rely on resource-saving methods.

With 75 dedicated employees - a balanced mix of experienced specialists and young talent - we have always focused on the highest quality and responsibility towards nature. Since Hirschbach was founded in Sulzbach-Laufen, we have passionately pursued sustainable production that protects the environment while meeting modern technical standards. We are particularly proud of our biomass power plant, which has been in operation since June 2020 and supplies our sawmill and surrounding households with 100 % of green electricity. This is our contribution to the energy transition.

When it comes to wood species and wood products, we at Hirschbach focus on variety and quality. With our many years of experience and modern technology, we produce tailor-made solutions for various applications. We use high-quality timber such as spruce, fir, pine, Douglas fir and larch as construction timber. Every timber product from our sawmill is manufactured with dedication and a clear focus on quality and sustainability.

- Slats / cross frames: Versatile and resilient - perfect for stable constructions.
- Glulam lamellas: For load-bearing constructions and high load-bearing capacity.
- Raw material for KVH: Weather-resistant blanks made of Douglas fir and spruce, also suitable for outdoor use.
- Scantling: Can be used for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications.
- Planks / planks: Solid wood cuts, also in special dimensions on request.
- Disposable / reusable pallets: Quick delivery in all standard dimensions and special designs.
- Sawdust: For the production of animal bedding or as a composite material in the food industry.

Log purchasing and further processing
As an established sawmill with many decades of experience, we are your reliable partner in the timber market. We produce timber sustainably, which means that we prefer to source our logs from the region and pay attention to responsible forest management. Our logs are cut into sawn timber in the sawmill according to customer requirements and, if necessary, dried and planed in our own planing mill.
