Roundwood Sorter (m/f/d)
Location: 74429 Sulzbach-Laufen

The roundwood operator is a key position that combines manual labor (during inspection) with modern woodworking technology (on the production line) to get the most out of wood as a raw material.

Responsibilities:

For you: a challenging and varied role

  • Preparation, Setup, and Operation of the Log Yard: Control of the Fully Automated System for Sorting and Measuring Logs
  • Quality Assessment: Visual quality control and sorting of spruce, fir, or hardwood logs into quality grades (log quality, curvature, knottiness), as well as documentation of deviations and defects
  • Machine Operation & IT: Control of the cross-cut line, as well as control via 3D measurement systems and monitoring of the debarking process
  • Material Logistics: Coordinating the receipt of raw lumber, sorting it into bins, and feeding it to the saw line
  • Maintenance & Care: Inspecting and cleaning the system to minimize downtime and ensure it remains operational
  • Safety Standards: Reviewing safety regulations and ensuring compliance with safety standards

Academic Requirements:

  • Vocational Training: Ideally, you have completed vocational training in the woodworking industry (e.g., woodworking technician, sawmill operator, forestry technician, or comparable training). However, career changers who are eager to learn are also very welcome!
  • Expertise: Ideally, a good knowledge of identifying wood species and wood grades, or a willingness to actively familiarize yourself with „plant operation“ and „wood as a product“
  • Technical understanding: Ability to understand and operate machinery and perform quality control checks
